Prof. Omaïma El-Shal (President of the Conference)
Omaïma El-Shal is a professor of Egyptology. She got her MA from the Sorbonne-Paris IV and PhD from the University of Lille III, France. Now she is the dean of the Faculty of Archaeology and Tourism Guidance at Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST). From 2014 to 2017, Omaïma was awarded the fellowship of associate researcher at the Institut français d’archéologie orientale. Since February 2024, she is a scientific collaborator in the same institute (IFAO). She was invited as a professor in different institutions such as Labex RESMED (Paris – Sorbonne), faculty of archaeology of Luciano Blaga (Sibiu-Rmainia). She participated in different archaeological missions such as Deir el-Medineh (Egypt), Kom el-Hitan (Egypt), Tell el-Herr (Egypt), Douai (France). Today, she is at the head of the mission at Tabbet el-Gueish el-Sharqueyah at Saqqarah (Egypt) since 2021 (MUST). Her principal interest is the funeral customs in Ancient Egypt and the Nile Delta.
Dr. Khaled Hassan (Co-President of the Conference)
Khaled Hassan serves as an Associate Professor within the Egyptology Department at the Faculty of Archaeology and Tourism Guidance, Misr University for Science and Technology. His academic journey includes the completion of his doctoral studies at Cairo University in 2014. Following this, he was awarded two post-doctoral fellowships by DAAD to Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. For a period spanning 2017 to 2020, Hassan held the position of associate researcher at IFAO. In 2022, he gained further recognition as an associate researcher at the American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE). Hassan’s primary research interests revolve around hieratic artifacts such as ostraca, papyri, and wooden tablets.
Dr. Marwa Abd El Hameed Soliman
Marwa Soliman, PhD, is a renowned Egyptologist with expertise in ancient Egypt and the Near East. She holds a PhD from Mansoura University and is an Assistant Professor in Egyptology. Marwa’s research spans from internal conflicts in ancient Egyptian dynasties to Libya’s impact on Egypt. She has presented at international conferences, including “Current Research in Egyptology,” and actively engages in archaeological excavations. Marwa also contributes to journals like “Pakistan Heritage” and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Asian Civilizations.
Dr. Bassem Mohammed Khattab
Bassem Khattab is an Associate Professor in the Department of Egyptology, Faculty of Archaeology and Tourism Guidance, Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST). He earned his MA (2013) and his PhD (2026) from Tanta University, Egypt. He got promoted to Associate Professor universities in 2021. His main research focuses on Ancient Egyptian Civilization and Near East Civilizations. He is acting as a reviewer in different Archaeological journals.
Makrina Mounir
She works as a Teaching Assistant at Misr University for Science and Technology in the College of Archaeology and Tourism Guidance, while concurrently pursuing her PhD. Her academic background includes an MA in Coptology, with her thesis focusing on the portrayal of Saint John the Baptist in Coptic art ranging from the 12th to the 18th century AD. Through her research, she illuminates the historical and artistic progression of Coptic iconography within this timeframe. Engaged in fieldwork, she participated in the IFAO Mission in Deir el-Médina in 2024. Furthermore, she contributes to the organizing committee of LYF (LOGOS Coptic Youth Forum) since 2021.
Mohamed Youssef Sedek
Mohammed currently holds a position as a Teaching Assistant at Misr University for Science and Technology in the Department of Restoration and Conservation. Additionally, he works as a Restorer at the French Institute of Oriental Archaeology (IFAO). His involvement in various archaeological missions includes being a member of the French mission at the Deir El Medina site since 2019, the Portuguese-American mission to the Giza Plateau site since 2023, and the Egypt University for Science and Technology mission at Tabbet el-Gueish el-Sharqueyah at Saqqarah since 2021. His academic background includes a Master’s degree in the restoration of metal artifacts combined with leather and he is currently pursuing his PhD in the conservation of metal artifacts.
Mariam Khalid El-Sawy
Mariam works as a Teaching Assistant at Misr University of Science and Technology in the Department of Tourism Guidance. Her research in Egyptology focuses on ancient Egyptian religion, specifically delving into astronomy for her master’s degree. She participated in the French archaeological Mission of Deir el-Medina in 2024 and was also involved with the Russian Mission at the Giza Plateau in 2022. Mariam has taken on roles as a presenter for official events, such as conferences and ceremonies, and has played a part in the production of various tourist documentaries to promote Egyptian tourism. Additionally, she operates as a freelance tour guide.
Huzaifa Magdy
He serves as a teaching assistant in the Egyptology Department at Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST). Currently pursuing his PhD at Ain Shams University, his research centers on the analysis of “bands of texts” at Dendera temple, focusing on Hieroglyphic inscriptions in Egyptian temples during the Greco-Roman periods, particularly the Ptolemaic Hieroglyphs. His academic journey includes the completion of an MA degree, where his thesis explored a specific type of offering texts at Edfu temple. Engaged in fieldwork, Huzaifa actively participates in three missions: the IFAO Mission in Deir El-Medina at Luxor since 2019, the IFAO, University of Cologne, and Ain Shams University mission at Kom-Ombo temple in Aswan since 2021, and the MUST excavation mission at Tabbet el-Gueish el-Sharqueyah at Saqqarah since 2021.
Emad Mohamed Elhosary
Emad is currently employed as the Public Relations Coordinator at the Faculty of Archaeology and Tourism Guidance at Misr University for Science and Technology. He is actively engaged in pursuing his MA research in Egyptology, focusing on Site Management and Sustainable Development. Emad is a dedicated member of the French mission at the Deir El Medina site, contributing during the seasons of 2023-2024.
